Vince E. Collins
Vince began his dance training at age 13 in Pasadena California. When 17, he studied with the Oakland Academy of Ballet and the Dramatic Arts Department at UC Berkeley under the tutelage of David and Marni Wood. Awarded a full Merit scholarship to the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater School in New York, he later was awarded a full scholarship and completed Dance Theatre of Harlem’s Pre-Professional program. He went on to dance with DTH for thirteen years until his retirement in 1999 as a soloist. During his tenure, Mr. Collins served as Master Teacher for "Dancing through Barriers," DTH’s Outreach Program, teaching in the United States, South Africa, England, Germany and other international locations. Mr. Collins has taught at the New World School of the Arts and Miami Conservatory Ballet in Miami, Florida; the Washington Institute of Dance (Washington DC), and a choreographer of children's productions. Returning to the west coast, he was Principal Dancer with Oakland Ballet, continued youth arts education and violence prevention programming, was a member of the California Dance Educator's Association and continued to perform and choreograph professionally. He taught for the Ailey Camp, UC Berkeley, and was Program Director for the Lick-Wilmerding High School in San Francisco Ca. Mr. Collins brings 20 years of experience to the Las Vegas Contemporary Dance Theatre as Director of Arts and Education.
